COUPLES THERAPY IN RALIEGH, NC
Helping you discover the relationships you’ve always wanted.
You love your partner. But somewhere along the way, the distance crept in. We've helped hundreds of couples find their way back — and further than they'd been before.
WHY YOU’RE HERE
Your life looks very different than it did a few years ago.
You may be juggling a new home, a new job, a new child—or watching your child grow up fast. A health scare, a cross-country move, a career change, any of it can shake what felt stable..
With so much going on, it’s easy to feel distant from your partner.
You might argue more than you used to. Which is not a terrible thing in and of itself, but…
The arguments that you have don’t get resolved. Maybe you come back to the same conflict, or maybe each argument addresses a new issue or topic. Nonetheless, in the absence of conflict resolution, you find yourself being more critical. You respond more defensively.
You may not talk as much. You’re busy, and there are more responsibilities and obligations as you and your relationship evolve. But deep down, you wonder if the busyness is really an avoidance strategy. You fear what might happen if you have the conversation that you and your partner really need to have.
You and your partner may begin to feel like roommates. Date nights fall away. Worse, curiosity and play both diminish, so that important conversations and sexuality both feel hard or confusing.
You and your relationship are not alone—and help is available.
We are experienced relationship and sex therapists, and we’ve helped hundreds of couples who have started couples therapy as the result of:
Conflict resolution issues

Most notably, challenges with when you and your partner want different things from sex — and neither of you knows how to talk about it without it turning into a fight.Family planning ruptures.
We specialize in working with couples who are seeking to expand their family, but have experienced infertility or pregnancy loss. We’ve guided couples through the grief and reorganization process that accompanies IVF, adoption, and other forms of assisted reproduction.Parenting and family changes.
The transition into parenthood can be extremely disruptive, especially for folks who don’t have ready-made support systems.Infidelity.
One of the most painful things that couples experience is the breach of agreement through a sexual/emotional relationship with another person, and ensuing secrecy around the breach.Household roles and finances.
Couples work best when there’s a sense of equality between the partners; inequity shows up the most around chores, money, and other household-related things.
We hope you leave couples therapy with:
Every session is tailored to your relationship's needs and goals. Here's what we've seen most consistently in couples who do the work.
More admiration for each other
We'll help you reduce criticism and defensiveness and practice letting each other know what you love about them. You'll learn to be more curious about who your partner is becoming.
A process to repair conflict
You will have conflict. We'll teach you strategies for apologizing, listening, taking accountability, and reconnecting so conflict becomes a path back to each other, not away.
More structure in your conversations
We'll partner with you to have discussions that are slower, more focused, less interruptive, and more collaborative.
Dedicated time for what matters
We'll help you and your partner create structure in your life- dedicated time and space for the conversations that actually need to happen.
More trust. More play.
Trust builds through repetition and consistency. The safety that develops together invites a deeper sense of fun, play, and emotional connection — the relationship you chose each other for.

What predicts success in couples therapy
-
1
Use the session to gameplan how you want to solve problems differently.
-
2
Create time outside of sessions to practice what you agreed upon together.
-
3
Check in with each other to see what's working and what to improve.
-
4
Use the next session to talk through adjustments — what to keep, what to change.
Goal-oriented, solution-focused
We'll start by naming ideal short and long-term outcomes for your relationship and each person in it. Sessions are typically 50 or 80 minutes though we may find during the consultation that a longer initial session makes sense.
At the end of each session, we'll offer ideas and experiments to try. The couples who make the most progress are the ones who practice between sessions and bring back what they noticed.
As therapy evolves, we'll talk regularly about what's working (so we can do more of it) and explore what might be getting in the way.
